All About Our Young Philanthropists!

2016-11

In this month’s Update, we’ll be talking all about TPC’s Young Philanthropists. (We know, we’re excited too!)

We are proud of our Young Philanthropists. They are generous with their time, talent, and treasure. They are smart. They are funny. They are thoughtful. They are leaders. They are redefining what it means to be a philanthropist.

Since its inception in 2012, TPC has made a concerted effort to support the next generation of women philanthropists – and we’ve attracted some pretty incredible ones. In order to encourage even greater participation by young women, the Board voted this year to cut membership donations in half for all members aged 35 and under. Two thumbs way up for more inclusive policies!

At TPC, we have a few ways in which we refer to our younger (35 and under) members and the work that they are doing. Take a peek below to learn the meanings behind these phrases.

Young Philanthropists (YPs): Young Philanthropists are TPC members between the ages of 18 and 35. TPC has 58 YPs! They account for nearly a quarter of the total membership.

Fellows: The Fellows are a subset of the Young Philanthropists. They are young women who have gone through a rigorous application and interview process and been selected for a one-year fellowship. These women have demonstrated a commitment to philanthropy and a strong interest in becoming part of the women’s collective giving movement. As part of their fellowship, they are required to participate on a Grant Review Team, serve on one other committee, and attend events. Fellows have their full membership paid for by other generous TPC members (thank you to those of you who are reading!). TPC has 14 Fellows – 9 from the 2016-17 cohort and 5 from the 2015-16 cohort. Check out TPC’s website to read each of their bios.

Young Philanthropist Initiative (YPI): The YPI is programming for the 58 members 35 and under to help them expand their knowledge of the greater Boston non-profit community, develop connections with TPC’s multi-generational members, and develop and refine the skills necessary for non-profit work. There are a lot of exciting things in the works for 2017 – stay tuned!
